세종대학교(총장 엄종화)가 Times Higher Education(THE)이 발표한 ‘2026 THE 세계대학평가’에서 연구 품질(Research Quality) 부문 3년 연속 국내 1위를 차지했다. 연구 품질 점수는 92.6점으로, 국내 대학 가운데 유일하게 90점대를 기록했다. 세계 순위도 69위를 기록하며 3년 연속 세계 100위권을 이어갔다.
세부 지표를 보면 논문 영향력 지표인 논문당 피인용수는 91.7점, 연구 강도 지표인 FWCI(75th Percentile)는 98.0점, 연구 우수성 지표인 상위 10% 논문수는 96.6점을 기록했다. 이 같은 수치는 세종대 연구가 국제적으로 활발히 인용되고 있으며 고임팩트 저널에 실리는 비중이 높다는 것을 보여준다.
THE 평가에서 90점대 이상의 연구 품질 점수를 유지하는 대학은 전 세계적으로도 상위 그룹에 속한다. 세종대는 3년 연속 90점대를 유지하며 국내 대표 연구중심 대학으로서의 입지를 공고히 했다.
세종대는 그동안 논문 수의 양적 확대보다 질적 수준 제고에 집중하는 연구 전략을 펼쳐왔다. 연구 업적 중심의 교원 채용, 상위 학술지 게재 지원, 국제 공동연구 활성화 등이 대표적이다. 이 같은 정책이 장기적으로 결실을 맺으며 THE 평가에서도 확실한 성과로 나타나고 있다.
연구 품질 외에도 세종대는 국제화 부문에서 65.8점을 기록해 국내 5위를 차지했다. 국제 공동연구는 84.4점, 외국인 학생 비율은 68.8점으로 글로벌 연구 네트워크 확대도 꾸준히 이어가고 있다. 산학협력 부문 점수는 83.7점으로 전년 대비 상승했다.
이러한 성과를 바탕으로 세종대는 이번 2026 THE 평가에서 국내 8위, 세계 251~300위권에 올랐다.

THE 세계대학평가는 전 세계 2,191개 대학을 대상으로 교육여건(29.5%), 연구환경(29%), 연구 품질(30%), 국제화(7.5%), 산학협력(4%) 등 5개 항목과 18개 세부 지표를 종합해 순위를 산정한다.

Sejong University (President Eom Jong-hwa) has ranked No. 1 in Korea for Research Quality for the third consecutive year in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, announced by Times Higher Education (THE). The university achieved a Research Quality score of 92.6, making it the only Korean university to score in the 90-point range. Globally, Sejong University ranked 69th, maintaining its position in the top 100 worldwide for three consecutive years.
In the detailed indicators, the university recorded: 91.7 points in citations per paper (a measure of research influence), 98.0 points in FWCI (75th Percentile) (a measure of research strength), and 96.6 points in the top 10% publications indicator (a measure of research excellence). These numbers reflect the strong international impact of Sejong University’s research and its high publication rate in top-tier journals.
Achieving and maintaining a research quality score above 90 in the THE rankings places an institution among the top-performing universities worldwide. Sejong University’s continued success underscores its position as a leading research university in Korea.
Sejong University has focused on enhancing research quality rather than simply increasing the volume of publications. Its strategies include faculty recruitment based on research performance, support for publication in top-tier journals, and promotion of international collaborative research. These long-term efforts have translated into tangible results in the THE rankings.
Beyond research quality, Sejong University also scored 65.8 points in the International Outlook category, ranking 5th in Korea. It earned 84.4 points for international collaboration and 68.8 points for the proportion of international students, demonstrating steady growth in its global research network. The university’s Industry score rose to 83.7 points, reflecting stronger university-industry collaboration compared to the previous year.
As a result of these achievements, Sejong University ranked 8th in Korea and within the 251–300 band globally in the 2026 THE World University Rankings.
